When to Order Your Wedding Hair Accessories: A Bridal Timeline

Delicate bridal hair pins woven through a braided wedding updo

One of the most common questions we are asked is simply: when should I order my hair accessories? The honest answer is that earlier is almost always calmer — but here is a realistic timeline to plan around, whether you want a ready-to-wear piece or something bespoke.

6+ months before: begin exploring

This is the ideal window to start, especially if you are considering a bespoke commission. At this stage most brides have chosen their dress, which means we can design an accessory that genuinely complements it. Early enquiries also leave room to refine the design without any pressure.

3–6 months before: design and confirm

If you have not started yet, this is still a comfortable window. For bespoke pieces, this is when we finalise the concept, agree materials, and begin crafting. For ready-to-wear pieces, there is plenty of time to choose and receive your accessory well ahead of the day.

6–12 weeks before: your hair trial

Book your accessory to arrive before your hair trial if you can. Trying your pins, vine or comb with your actual hairstyle — on your own hair, with your stylist — is the best way to confirm placement and be completely happy before the day.

4–6 weeks before: final details

By now your accessory should be with you and tried alongside your veil. This is the moment to make any small adjustments, not to be starting from scratch.

Shorter timeline? Don’t panic

If your wedding is sooner than these windows, please still get in touch. Ready-to-wear pieces can often be arranged more quickly, and we will always be honest about what is possible for your date.

The short version

  • Bespoke: enquire 3–6 months ahead (6+ is ideal).
  • Ready-to-wear: aim for at least 6–8 weeks before your hair trial.
  • Always: have your accessory in hand before the trial, not after.

Give yourself the gift of time, and your hair accessory becomes one less thing to think about in the final weeks. Start with a consultation whenever you are ready.
